Sure, but what can they do that current insurers can't? Hospitals have an effective oligopoly because there's no spare capacity.

Maybe, but what? If they're gonna do regulatory arbitrage that current insurers haven't, then it'd have to be something that requires more lobbying/political power than current insurers have, right?

yeah, I have no idea, but no-free-lunch does seem like a reasonable prior medical industry's a black box to me. hum when I think Amazon, I think playing states against each other and leveraging national presence. health is usually pretty state-specific, no? but can't ship MDs

Well, yes, but US medicine is more free-lunch-y than most things - the current state relies on media leaving people uninformed and wondering why everything is so expensive, with the occasional scapegoat sacrifice.
