COMT has a sort of regulatory effect. It seems to affect attention in the brain due it being a modulator via dopamine removal. A decent summary: https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/gene/COMT https://blog.23andme.com/23andme-research/snpwatch/snpwatch-genetic-variant-may-increase-risk-for-anxiety-disorders/ … (references https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15956988 ) and https://www.snpedia.com/index.php/Rs4680 … list many studies.
https://you.23andme.com/tools/data/?snp_name=rs4680 … and https://you.23andme.com/tools/data/?snp_name=rs4633 … both are part of the COMT gene which help your body make variations on 'catechol-O-methyltransferase' (hence it's name 'COMT') summary here:https://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/gene/COMT
I'm GG in rs4680 and CC in rs4633 Which when combined means my body's comt gene is extremly good at making that enzyme. Effectively my body gets rid of dopamine really well so its harder for me to get stimulated by things and probably plays a role in autism obsession features.
This was why I started looking at serotonin processing & acetylcholine stuff: it was unlikely that my anxiety and emotional turbulence was due to the COMT mutation. I guessed I was GG because of my high pain tolerance and various tendon issues, of which it also plays a role.
