For the record I think CRISPR self-experimentation is totally fine but every constitution in the world should include a law stating that anyone randomly releasing gene drives to an ecosystem will be burned at the stake in the town squarehttps://twitter.com/CRISPR_News/status/937086106364813312 …

okay so three things here 1."randomly releasing" here is careless stuff that can bring ecological destruction, but also, a gene drive that can be used against malaria can be used for bioterrorism too
-
2. the last update I have on use of gene drives against mosquitos had, well, this cover http://www.genetics.org/content/205/2/827 …pic.twitter.com/tl4uFQTXFG

3. I'm just repeating apparent hiearchy of concerns among most informed people. George Church is the type to give his wishlists of 10 cool mutations he wants for everyone to the press and even he gets angry at people not doing that with the most perfect, secure protocols

(that=gene drive)

I believe the word "randomly" is doing the work here.
