Think I recall reading it on Popehat ie: "you can't prove it" a very different sentiment than "I did nothing" or even "there's no evidence"

Maybe? But also seems like that's a verbal trap for people who misspeak. If we can't prove it, maybe we shouldn't assume guilt?

for sure! practically and procedurally "you can't prove it" is exactly as good as "I absolutly broke no laws" but maybe inferentially . . .
