aint private sector a bit more restrictive than academy if you're doing hard-sciences

if you've got stats and programming skills you can usually make it to a (good) data science role solid salary at half the hours worked

unsure about hard science proper, for economics the bar at (say) amazon is quite low relative to academia as long as you get coding + data

and the pay for economists at least is much, much better than in academia at all levels
