But much less so than Java. And most of the confusion has a purpose. Being confused by pointers helps you to understand memory.

I'm very grateful I did a uni course in C++ for exactly this reason: being confident around pointers and references is just so useful

my first (only) formal programming course was C++ for scientists + engineers, in 2004 by far the most useful course I've ever taken
