I think what's weird about lots of contemporary political extremists is that they don't know, or act as if, they're weird fringe groups
or something about discourse in some pol subcultures where performative outrage is the norm? still trying to see the patterns :/

So much is optimized for performative outrage that I can't help but to think it's the default when not prevented.

didn't we usually just ignore people like that, like, twenty or even ten years ago that seemed to be a cost-effective prophylactic

20 years ago internet access was something for adults with degrees. There was a higher floor on emotional control.

It's hard to expect people to act like adults when many aren't, & herd immunity to BS drops.

On the other hand, automated blocking of low-quality or inflammatory content is easy now, thanks to that first gen.

I want to say it's worthwhile. I'm pretty sure it could be worthwhile if we managed it right. More confident last year.
