After I graduated I was in a real rush to pay my dad back because it felt weird having even that small debt. Then a few years later I did the math and borrowed much more to invest so I could arbitrage our different risk/return tolerances

Likewise, paying off debts to my parents is vastly more important to me than loans with higher interest rates. I suspect there's a lesson here...

charged interest too. like not a lot. possibly cultural yeah. i mean it was quite informal overall, they never actually paid attention to it, I just paid annual interest.
