I just think "fideism" doesn't get us much further than "religion" does. My fundamental problem w/ the religion view is that it's a black box: *why* do people act this way? "Because they're being irrational" is not helpful to good analysis

oh, i dont think its irrational. i mean--managing to get to a place where people who are skeptical of you are treated to cudgels is a perfectly rational thing to aspire to if your aim is domination. does that clarify my stance a bit? put another way, fideism is not about belief
