I have never really liked the idea that it is an innate feature of the world that most economic returns will accrue to some sort of leadership or management skill. It rubs me wrong because at a super high level no factor of production should be intrinsically advantaged.

And I think it is in fact wrong, and there has been substantial variation in which factor receives the highest wage, and the mistake is rooted in the fact that *earning a high wage* grants you a large share of resources to direct at your pleasure.

Like I feel a vast gulf between CEO whose main tool for motivating employees is "you work for a salary" versus a guy who relies more on charisma and a cult of personality (part of which is yes a promise of plunder etc) to get people to endure mortal peril.
