the thing abt hegemonic regimes is that they can last practically forever even though they might also collapse in a day because thats how preference falsification equilibria and cascades behttps://twitter.com/razibkhan/status/1459677667955863558 …

one simple model is that woke shit is empowered and enforced by large swathes of regulatory code and both private and public bureaucracies with god knows how many jobs involved. and so most likely it will not be going anywhere until the federal government is overthrown or remade

so yes with this model you might as well ask equivalently "when does the regulatory sector go away" or perhaps "when is the heat death of the universe"https://twitter.com/HeywoodFloyd10/status/1459692996027428865?t=2cy3cluNFQ_yAdh_Wefhgg&s=19 …

Yup, massive deregulation is a great way to attack wokeism.

afaict a major lesson of history since the 1930s is that bureaucracies in a modern state never ever go away. elections dont change them, laws dont change them, revolutions rarely upset them unless theyre accompanied by a total collapse of a state to failure

so to the extent that woke shit is become entrenched in little things like "the massively publicly funded education system" and "organizations who decide whether you can be fired or sued or taken over by the federal government" i would guess it is not going anywhere

this entire thread contradicts the original tweet, i took a shower and shaved between the first tweet and the rest of them and my thinking evolved during this time

‘wokeness’ seems pretty much a nonsense veil pulled over americans’ (spreading as the US is a cultural nexus) eyes to hide the ugly perpetuation of the status quo (one political party, war, inequality, ever increasing concentration of power, surveillance, take your pick…).

It’s possible for a large enough preference cascade to pressure a bureaucracy to change course without getting rid of the bureaucracy. So while I think you’re right to be pessimistic in the short run, the thread isn’t necessarily in conflict with the original tweet.

I also didn't see a conflict. OP: "X and Y disagree about timelines." Rest of thread: "Here are some reasons to think X is right." That's not even a conflict if you find the reasons ironclad, which, as you note, they aren't.
