the thing abt hegemonic regimes is that they can last practically forever even though they might also collapse in a day because thats how preference falsification equilibria and cascades behttps://twitter.com/razibkhan/status/1459677667955863558 …

Your original thought was better. One more reason to avoid hygiene

i would like to think the original one is what turns out to be salient in the end!

‘wokeness’ seems pretty much a nonsense veil pulled over americans’ (spreading as the US is a cultural nexus) eyes to hide the ugly perpetuation of the status quo (one political party, war, inequality, ever increasing concentration of power, surveillance, take your pick…).

It’s possible for a large enough preference cascade to pressure a bureaucracy to change course without getting rid of the bureaucracy. So while I think you’re right to be pessimistic in the short run, the thread isn’t necessarily in conflict with the original tweet.
-
I also didn't see a conflict. OP: "X and Y disagree about timelines." Rest of thread: "Here are some reasons to think X is right." That's not even a conflict if you find the reasons ironclad, which, as you note, they aren't.
