I didn't take it as a criticism, but one thing I've learned is that committed couples without children of a certain age are nearly always not that way by choice.

that's fair. i spent probably four years lowkey worried about it before our daughter was born, and had a hard time imagining what my life would be like if it turned out I couldn't have children. so there was absolutely some speculative projection
