i think people basically mostly live their lives by social defaults rather than considering options and making deliberate choices rn an easy default is not having kids and i see a lot of people taking this approach if you Can incidentally dress this up as virtue you Might do so https://twitter.com/lolitsnotreal_/status/1456625253900328961 …

none of this of course applies universally. explicitly tho i do not share their views i know some incredibly thoughtful antinatalists and respect where theyre coming fromhttps://twitter.com/eigenrobot/status/1055716826066219008?t=R7D6ApLszgbF1BSsk9pEqg&s=19 …

disappointed to learn that you're antiantiantinatalist. I agree that there are s small number of very thoughtful antinatalists that I would undoubtedly respect as people, but I dont know how you could truly believe in a natalist viewpoint while respecting the an antinatalist view

again not the person. but it's sort of like, if you truly believe in a christian God you can't really respect an atheist (read: blasphemous) viewpoint, even if you can respect the atheist (read:blasphemer) themselves?

i have some pretty concrete examples in mind. a common phenomenon is an antiantinatalist (P0) will discover someone else (P1) is an antiantinatalist. i am familiar with P1 and will watch P0 yell at P1 because they hear "antinatalist" and pattern match them to /r/childfree or w/e

this is depressing and irritating to me because I know P1 and while I dont agree with them I am familiar with the deep humanism and empathy that causes them to believe that reproducing is really bad net and while i dont agree on the particulars we share terminal values

if you like you might consider how you might feel as a Christian if you had seen dozens of your coreligionists mobbing some heathen who was simply trying to have a quiet conversation with a friend and then you might start to wonder why they even bother calling themselves Xian
