Incidentally, this is why a few ppl who unironically accept critical theory are surprisingly insightful - critical theory is actually a quite fertile tool in the right hands.

For example! A critical examination of the treatment of Irish, Italian and Slavic immigrants into America shows the historical construction of the modern American notion of "whiteness", and how it actually served to help keep lower class whites economically immobile.

If engaged with honestly, the hillbilly rant of "ahm white and it ne'er helped me none, and mah grandaddy ne'er owned no slaves so i ain't owe y'all sheeyit" is actually 100% valid, since these people are almost entirely descendants of Scotts-Irish Borderers.

This means that their ancestors were brought here by force - just like the African slaves - and forced to work under hostile conditions until they chose to flee into the Appalachian mountains. And they have been denied opportunities ever since, just like their Black brothers.

That said, post-world war 2, their ability to "pass as white" allowed them to take advantage of the GI bill and other similar opportunities to escape the cycle - which a small number navigated successfully. So in that sense, some "po' white trash" benefits a little from whiteness

But that same advantage also allows some (mostly lighter skinned) Mexicans, Central and South Americans to also "leg up", which creates an interesting classification problem - "are" they white or PoC?

A similar problem happens with Jews, especially white-passing Ashkenazis. And then there's the whole mess with asians, lighter-caste Indians, and so on. Intersectionalism be tough, yo.

But given that all these ppl get to claim a seat at the PoC table, the Scotts-Irish and Irish rednecks feel a little bit left out, and maybe justifiably so.

The great thing about Critical Theory is that its a tool that purports to be able to deconstruct ANYTHING. So more ppl need to stop bitching about woke Critical Theory takes, and more ppl need to start using Critical Theory to deconstruct those takes.

If you are sufficiently versed in the theory, you should be able to riposte them into an absolute standstill, at which point all they can do is attempt to "victim olympics" at you - which itself begs for deconstruction using Critical Theory!
