leaning toward not caring because i. i already have a ds title at a well known firm ive been at for years ii. i can just put ds on my resume for this if needed and the work really does match the ds title iii. ideally i will never need to find another job through recruiters so

Data Scientist and Data Analyst are two very different jobs. As a Data Scientist, you're something of an "artisan" when it comes to data. You devise new, innovative ways to look at data, create new predictive models, and think outside the box constantly.

Its all arbitrary and stupid. It all matters until it doesnt, and it matters in the opposite directions on different days. Be lucky. That is the only advice that matters, anywhere. Do whatever the fuck you do, and be lucky.

I think the title *might* make a difference in perception based on the sort of keyword matching that some HR depts use as a first pass. It doesn't hurt to make the request, right? [However, I do not believe Twtr should ban people for not using your preferred title.]

it matters enough that one of the ppl at my job recently pushed to get all our names changed from less-cool name to more-cool name but otoh ppl will often just put whatever best describes their role on their resumes regardless of Official Title i think
