wang came off to me as charmingly naive in his approach to solving the problems he identified. i imagine i would enjoy sharing a glass of brandy with him and i hope hes not going to be too disappointed when nothing he does even remotely works https://twitter.com/palladiummag/status/1447617641942822914 …pic.twitter.com/WCZKwvqVeR

everyone ignored it often in creative ways eg, aristocratic women obtained prostitution licenses so they could sleep around ultimately birth rates stayed low and Rome became a city of foreigners and the old yeoman were impoverished, displaced by slaves https://twitter.com/thebestestpie/status/1447937450173730817?t=GgkmvAjpK7d_4ladwlqqfg&s=19 …

Ancient Romans tried to boost their fertility rates, but it didn't work out well. As modern studies show, it is difficult to get humans to breed. We are going the way of the panda. Pretty interesting paper from 1921, so just 100 years old. https://web.archive.org/web/20210217180941id_/https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdfdirect/10.1111/j.1601-5223.1921.tb02635.x … pic.twitter.com/nFzgdxY8IW

During roman times they had to bribe the enslaved women with freedom contracts to have children. After certain number of births the women got their freedom.

Another very useful discussion is in J.D. Unwin's Sex and Culture (also 1934), specifically §§168-173. Unwin's Jungian-physical theories with which he tries to explain the phenomena are balderdash, but thankfully he keeps his discussion of the phenomena entirely separate.pic.twitter.com/XicHFffpZU
