why is market value important in valuing a stock you're not gonna buy the entire company it's just a cost of a bet that the price will go up feels like only important if you want to check likelihood of takeover

another canonical way of valuing a company is the present value of its discounted dividends forever if you want to look at it like that and one could imagine those being relatively quite high for tesla vs trad manufacturers like look at eg google printing fucktons of cash now

people don't value Tesla as a car company, they value it as *Elon Musk's* car company "I want in on whatever this crazy hypercompetent guy is doing"
