spooky take
occurred maybe the case for pessimism rn is not any particular policy by the administration or woke people taking over everything or gadsden flag mobs or whatever
rather its that the us government seems incapable of responding to new crises and they accumulate

like yes different things in the list i mention are bad and you can be sure i agree with you abt which ones are actually bad or even real but they seem marginal compared to the government clearly cant do a damn thing right and wont get out of the way to let other people fix stuff

so yes things just start piling up Afghanistan is a clusterfuck, the only response to the supply chain is "welp", covid response is a sad joke, we never even really got over 2008 in a lot of ways more and more and morehttps://twitter.com/TheTriarii/status/1452680300186718213?t=CuNZu9NtnGsedQYbq7j4Zg&s=19 …

An argument could be made the government has actually gotten extremely good at dealing with financial crisis, witness the truly heroic and successful response last spring, and while Afghanistan was a clusterfuck the US did in fact win in Iraq and the broader GWOT.

Sure. The fed isn’t going to fail because it sucks though, but because the public hates technocratic institutions and becausemodern hyper partisan party activists can’t tolerate nonpartisan institutions.

The extremely unpopular but correct view IMO on a whole host of government failures isn’t that the government is bad or that elites are bad (they often are but no more than usual), but that the voters are bad, and the government’s big mistake is giving them more and more power.

Ah, but if the elites were less virtuous and more greedy for power and honor we’d never have gotten into this mess.
