stray observation if your data adjacent sql is really really easy to learn, if you spend a weekend learning basic operations and brush up before your interview youll be reasonably solid for most data science positions this is prlly the best thing you can do coming out of schoolhttps://twitter.com/peachblvd/status/1450993542843617283 …

i have never programmed loops in sql i just use python bindings and loop through SELECT or INSERT statements as God intendedhttps://twitter.com/eevee_not/status/1451002403663253510?t=dfbrZJ5hKIsgYn_EE8e8hg&s=19 …

I fucking hate SQL. Rarely had to use it, and never quiet grasped how loops worked. Stupid things were off enough from C++ it hurt.

ok but so if you're writing conditions or loops in your db queries you are CLEARLY doing something wrong. I mean that's why it's called a "QUERY" language not "OH WAIT, THIS IS ACTUALLY A WHOLE PROGRAMMING" language.

sometimes i need to get around arbitrary "limits" imposed by "administrators" to prevent "rampant abuse of computational resources"

Have you ever considered getting ridiculously gud at programming? Because I'm currently considering getting ridiculously gud at programming. I mean - as a meme, first, but then also because ascending from lots tons of money with a toy language to true mastery sounds super dope.

i have considered it 🤔 maybe have some way to get there on my next job. or alternatively some time in the future when i have a bunch of time off im fairly good at programming just in a somewhat disorderly autodidactic way. i mean i can make it do what i want quickly

With how broken cs education is, I think that's actually the better way to learn it. It's just that you're missing a bunch of the foundations that seem scary but actually aren't. I'm crossing my fingers for Casey to hurry up with making Starcode Galaxyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgoetgxecw8 …

I know! I think we're actually good in the /right/ way, just not yet quite there in terms of always making the right decisions early. So much programming stuff I see these days is bad AND done the /wrong/ way under the pretense that this is what you're supposed to be doing.
