schwartz and friedman's monetary history of the united states has a good chapter on this. at one point i think 1937 he probably caused a double dip recession by inducing deflation via raising reserve requirements this separately from the feds mismanagement, a separate issuepic.twitter.com/HNVOI8TAQ9
