probably depends on the country, but i bet the majority—including all developed countries—are robust enough to survive a total loss of national foundation myths via historical reinterpretation or whatever, & keep basically normal functioning & not collapse

which isn't to say national foundation myths aren't important, & don't help states maintain trust & better functioning etc. but i think modern states are just so entrenched & bureaucratized now, they can survive a lot of cultural change
