Why do humans have this unique urge to alter the body (animals don’t share this)? Maybe it’s a consequence of erratic, ephemeral, and cultural tastes but nothing explains it as well as centuries of boredom and inexhaustible resources to experiment

Not sure how common it is in-general, but this sort of behaviour is relatively common in parrots (I’ve owned/looked after a few) They’re also prone to depression (from solitude, lack of mental stimulus etc.) and self mutilation. The smarter they are, the more sensitive they seem
