(Warning: US centrism): Unless you're basing your answer on some future collapse this one is a no brainer. Life, emphatically including childhood, is incalculably better now than it was in the 90s.https://twitter.com/VectorOfBasis/status/1447584590680498181 …

looks like things are trending badly by one measure that at least captures the depths of suffering. this is 15-19yo suicides, need some extrapolation for the 2015-2025 cohort, but note historical nonmonotonicitypic.twitter.com/DmzNoVLXsQ

I would pretty strongly take the other side here, but i suppose it depends on your circumstances I had to take my kids all the way to NL to give them a childhood matching my own '85-'95 upbringing

I was a teen in the 90’s, here’s why I think it was great: * As an unskilled 16yo I could still find work easily * The fun parts of the internet were already there and we didn’t realize it would become a cesspool * More people believed that the future would get better, not worse

the last one maybe seems most important but i say this as a thirty-something looking back hm

Spur of the moment: all other things being equal, if I could have raised my kids in the era in which I grew up (mid-GenX), I think I would.

OK sure the 85-95 kids could look forward to growing up and getting a job that can pay for "owning a home." Go outside and play with strangers. Watch TV all day. Not get a 4.0 "weighted GPA." But 2015 to 2025 kids have Splatoon, so, obviously totes better.
