In more efficient tech orgs, what is the cost to replace an engineer as a % of salary?

engineer notices his floor only has one coffee machine. note already this is shit tier coffee, really awful, known internally as "frugal juice"
-
so he sits down and back of envelopes how much time is lost when everyone stands in the kitchenette waiting for the coffee machine to refill every morning, and the value of that time given average salaries of engineers and compares this to the price of another coffee machine

In my field, we all have billable hours. That means there's a quantifiable cost to meetings. In one staff meeting which was running long, someone mentioned this was costing $1500/hour (early 1990s). Boss did not wrap up particularly quickly, but future meetings were shorter.

I often joke about Gov efforts against fraud, waste, and abuse being a case of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to make sure they didn't lose thousands or hundreds of dollars.
