Audio filter with variable slope. Take k derivatives or integrals and you get a slope of 6k decibels per octave, with a perceptibly different sound for each k; but in-between slopes are easy to imagine and to hear, if you can produce them.

Actually building a filter like that requires either faking it with digital, or with a much higher-order analog filter that curve-fits over a limited frequency range.
