debt ceiling policy compromise! disaster only comes when bondholders dont get paid so we keep paying them. however we simply stop issuing payments to seniors, the indigent, etc. to compensate them we simply dissolve their obligations to THEIR creditors no muss no fuss!

now, i know--your thinking: robot, screwing those creditors sounds fine, who has the temerity to expect poor and or old people to pay their obligations. but how will they find food and goods? im glad you asked. here i am inspired by

the entire edifice of welfare is incredibly rickety and unstable and relies on the massive transfer of money from rich to poor people and also different rich people we'll replace all of it with a
@chesaboudin-like regime where laws simply dont apply to the poor and old2 replies 1 retweet 52 likesShow this thread -
from now on, people who previously got welfare money are simply permitted to exist outside the law. do they need food or toiletries or medical care? they can simply grab what they want from a CVS. Housing? theyll squat in your basement, try to stop them

obviously this might lead to discrimination against the old and poor so we'll have to strengthen anti-old and anti-poor nondiscrimination policies the rich will support this plan, since it will let them stop paying taxes

naturally criminal immunity will be means-tested, which will create new entry-level roles for profession old or poor people working at firms doing what would be "crimes" if richer people were doing them the economy will flourish at top and bottom

best of all, we dont need to get any of this through Congress. the CDC can simply use its pandemic authority to arbitrarily suspend contractual obligations indefinitely, and various attorneys general can simply stop prosecuting crimes the beauty of a modern administrative state!
