but basically undergrads are all terrible everywhere, but at a big state school its easy to do well and stand out relative to other undergrads without actually being a brain genious, and there were tons of opportunities

also it was cheap enough that i was able to add a second major totally unrelated to my first major and take a fifth year of courses without taking on debt and big enough that no one bothered to keep track of what i was doing overall just a lot of fun

there are probably some careers (bulge brackets, management consulting) where your gonna have a hard time breaking in outside of ivies but frankly those careers are shit compared to tech and getting worse, and not worth pursuing in most cases

basically the combination of the 08 crisis and the rise of tech imo absolutely ruined the old east coast overachiever career path in both absolute and relative terms i think this is underdiscussed

but my *hunch* is the ivies have never recovered and pivoted hard to their comparative advantage (rent-seeking and burning legacy brand prestige until people realize its gone)

i really regret not pursuing these opps while i was there. tons of accessibility to do cool lab work in undergrad.
