joke: we will bring equality and justice soon broke: we will dismantle white patriarchy in our lifetime woke: your grandkids will be chubby and woke because Nietzsche This isn't reassuring if you're awaiting equality and justice. But if you're awaiting the end of wokeness...pic.twitter.com/IbsVmTvVuS

Yes, Arthur is mostly just a cruel troll, but he's defending this "theory" quite sincerely. And he's an early adopter of many woke things. I think this utter nihilism is becoming more and more part of wokeness, and that doesn't spell imminent victory for the woke.

June 2020 may have been wokism's Stalingrad. The entire country rose up with one voice and a raised fist and... a couple of states tweaked their qualified immunity laws? A million "Say Their Names" t-shirts were sold? NYC elected a police captain mayor? That's it?

June 2020 was the MOP invasion of the BLM/SocJus scene, followed inexorably by a proliferation of sociopaths selling $5,000 "white detox" seminars. If any culture creators with a positive vision were left, they are now hopelessly outnumbered.https://meaningness.com/geeks-mops-sociopaths …

Eric Hoffer tells us that mass movements require frustration as fuel. They either achieve a goal and the frustration dissipates, or transform into perpetual frustration machines that abhor achievement. All that remains to them is belief in the devil.https://samzdat.com/2017/06/28/without-belief-in-a-god-but-never-without-belief-in-a-devil/ …

Utopian ideologues all too easily transform into belligerent nihilists. For a comprehensive overview of this, read Gurri's "Revolt of the Public". For an intimate portrait, you can't do better than Milosz' chapter on the "disappointed lover".https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Captive_Mind#Chapter_V:_Beta,_The_Disappointed_Lover …

This sounds like a vague theory with a lot of links to old books*, but I'm ready hazard an actual prediction based on it. *All three books are must-read masterpieces, though. Read them to understand the last century, and the coming one as well.

Predictions: Short term, wokism's true believers will fall one by one into belligerent nihilism. Medium term, they will do much damage by spending the movement's cultural capital on attacking their enemies. Long term, little of this culture will remain. Nihilism doesn't build.

i think a major issue is that theyre bureaucratically entrenched and that can go a long way toward maintaining just about anything concentrated benefits vs diffuse costs etc think you might be right culturally but there is also the institutional consideration in the med term

I was born in the Soviet Union of the 1980s. It sucked, but it sucked a lot less than the 1930s. In the 1980s you did better if you simply invested in your career and your kids than if you were politically active on either side or dreamt of the fiery revolution that never came.
