Random thought that's popped up lately for me: does it make sense to use DAOs as a platform to fund open scientific study where the questions, methods, review, and results could be handled in a consistent way and in the same manner as open source software?

Is anyone doing this or trying to get something like this off the ground? Full transparency, community review, open discussion, votes on proposals, votes on who will conduct the research, and full submission of results for anyone to review (and possibly score)

I don't know enough about academic research to understand if this would be preferable to the current system or result in better research but I'm curious

One benefit seems like it would make research actually open and create transparency around funding and selection mechanisms for the public

you might have a shot at getting it adopted if you could convince administrators it would subtantially increase funding for their initiatives, giving them control of larger budgets. otherwise DOA

What do you mean by the existing system here?
Do you mean the process of academic proposal and peer review itself?
Or the process as it exists in academia?
I'm proposing something outside of existing institutions1 reply 0 retweets 1 like -
oh i see i think it would be difficult and probably more straightforwardly carried out by the usual market mechanisms in most cases but sure why not!
