No idea honestly, but I think it really felt like an insult toward the country as a whole. The idea of not being taken seriously as Allies, etc...

I'm not a great IR specialist but that seems insane as a diplomatic move and really big L for Biden. France is not what it used to be however we're still a top military technology builder and top nuclear power and builders. You don't humiliate an ally like that

However, I've also heard that Fra'ce refused to share it's nuclear submarine technology and that may have pushed for a plan change. Also, France has the reputation of being hard to negotiate with on negotiation becaus 🇫🇷patriotism🇫🇷 makes everything a matter of diplomacy

Biden, rather famously, has "been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades" according to Obama's SecDef. Unsure why his bumbling isn't expected by our allies.

If the US goes to war with China tomorrow, who do the various countries side with? Not a trick or particularly hard question. Russia is with China. EU gets its energy and consumer goods from Russia and China. Simple as.

Australia is already in the 5 Eyes. Why should France be looped in?

We take France seriously as an ally, just not as seriously as the UK, Canada, and Australia.

The State Department lost a lot of staff during Trump’s administration. It’ll take a long time to grow back the lost institutional competence.
