I had a professor who started reading his way alphabetically through the university library. He’d started in 1973 and was up to “m” in 1991 when he told me. “I don’t read the technical stuff or (here he used air quotes) ‘ladies novels’.”

I do this with biographies.

I just checked and I'm using about 2.1cm per book average on one shelf (a relatively slim-booked shelf, as well). So about 53m of shelf space for 2,500 books. If your bookcase is 6 shelves high, that's about 9m of bookshelves. Which is quite a lot, really, would fill my office

20 books per half metre, so a bit more if you buy your books from https://booksbymetre.com/ (which most of us do, I'm sure)pic.twitter.com/mAmMYLS6qA

sure, but still more than 99,9% of the wolrd, and unless you're really in some kind of very select place, probably more than 80% of the people you'll discuss/work with 1 book a week could be more, but is already a very good level not mentioning articles you might read aside

Buying 1 book a week is absolute madness! Who has space for that? Also libraries are a thing, why would I waste all that money?

I'm all about the ebooks. I like some books to be physical copies, but I'd fill up my living space so fast.

I don't quite hit 50 but I've documented my reading the last few years. I'm getting way more non-fiction in my "diet" this year:https://caseysoftware.com/blog/tag/reading …
