"Killing Roth" isn't the plan, it's killing Backdoor/Mega Backdoor Roth. Which obviously were never really the intent of the law to begin with. Why have an income contribution limit at all if it's easy to bypass it? My employer doesn't offer mega backdoor anyway, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Roth benefits a lot of people, a lot. It benefits a tiny few, a lot more. Pareto improvement, correct policy move = don’t touch. Risk of mischief, overreach, unintended consequences = high.

I think if you have optionality in the tax code and that "benefits a lot of people" that is evidence that the optionality is actually doing something harmful and enabling adverse selection.

its win win someone pays less in taxes. win the government gets less money which means it either spends less or has a more expansionary fiscal policy which everyone seems to want. win whats the problem!
