Something like that. Shame is the anguish of having others know what you did, guilt the anguish of having done wrong whether anyone knows it. (If either of them are, I think only the latter is arguably derived from monotheism and/or notions of sin)

Guilt vs shame is a tricky one. My thinking is: Guilt is over something you did Shame is over what it says about who you are you can feel guilt while still considering yourself a “good person” shame however sees you as fundamentally bad or evil

Shame is societal manifestation, whether through public condemnation or self projection, but you wouldn’t feel ashamed in isolation (e.g stranded on a desert island) but you could feel guilty Antisocial disorder or robot excepted
