Some good conversation about it in the comments of the substack article. I think the issue here is that both her and Freddie are Gen X activists? People who were most involved in political activism in the 90s, when this was true (or more true, relative to any other time period).

Because yeah, it's pretty obvious the left has done a terrible job of policing it's violent fringe in the past too. Like they *just* pardoned a dude who was a getaway driver for the left's supposedly well-policed "violent fringe".

for many years the left was almost nothing but violent fringe. even mainstream pop culture (movies, tv shows, even books) are full of these examples. you'd have to have consumed none of that, let alone read any history, to think what she said is accurate
