people used to not need to exercise to be generally healthy. "go practice my muscles. idk man im working in this field ten hours a day. not seeing a need to do more of this" now we need to deliberately exercise because it doesnt just Happen now consider social cohesion the end

Even outside of churches, people sang together. A LOT. And non-WEIRD cultures still do. In a group of exchange students (except oddball Uzbek) the Euros each had common songs, & the PRChinese, even the Canadians. But we Americans sang our anthem bc no shared singing culture.

For examples of how this worked - men would sing in the fields, women would sing doing group chores, nobility would sing in the salons, and academics sang in the pubs and halls. That’s even before including common Christendom traditions.

I think the closest thing besides commercial jingles (whence Demolition Man) today would be… baby shark? Secular Christmas carols? Not even Disney is as universal as it once was.
