just finished reading Red Rising, ty @PrinceVogel I think for the recc
its a YA novel about a kid who goes to battle school. so its got the same basic structure as Ender's Game, that one with Jennifer Lawrence, harry potter etc
well executed, tightly plotted if not literary

a common theme in all these books is some Common Man (rare trope these days!!!) shows up in a rarefied space and has to forge a team together to beat some snobs in spite of adults being corrupt and bad, system being messed up, etc this is in *all* of these books

and universally the idea is that ok so these adults are dicks (maybe a few are ok) and the trick to winning is to become True Friends and find the virtue in even the least of your comrades and even enemies and lift up the broken etc etc

so my question is. why are the millennials who read these books so fucking bad at taking this universal Moral to heart looking at how my fellow kids are actually living youd think it never occurred to them to wonder. am i the baddie this feels like an indictment of literature
