just trying to think through stuff things that seem easy to accomplish in the next hundred years include just about everything in bio that you can imagine, and maybe arbitrarily approaching general purpose AI prolly fusion too if we're not dumb about it idk that seem right?

maybe I mostly resent the notion of hard physical constraints on reality

there are no physical constraints in the long run because physics is probabilistic

I chose >200 years but I think stuff that's isomorphic to FTL travel happens eventually? Like it's vaguely plausible even on currently known physics

Counterpoint: universe without physical constraints is a universe without a higher law, i.e. chaos.

I'll just say if FTL is physically possible there definitely are NOT any intelligent aliens in the galaxy.

The FTL question is the same as the time travel question. If either were possible, the universe would be full of travellers.

Yeah. Wouldn't it be nice if we could make things happen by wishing them?🪄🧙‍♂️ I suspect this reaction is fairly typical in our milieu. It is the twin of the resentment of the notion of hard(-ish) constraints on humans imposed by biology, and of the notion of unchosen obligations.

'Never because physical constraints' is the boring but probably correct answer. Solves the Fermi Paradox too. The comparison to powered flight doesn't really work because we could observe animals doing it
