I don't think there would be an organized military response by the Taiwanese state against Chinese occupation forces, since the outcome is clear and most Taiwanese stand more to loose than to win by resisting the inevitable. Troop carriers might at worst face small arms?

Any outcome would be far from clear. The damage done to China's image and economic relationship with major trading partners would be severe and long lasting.

I find it plausible that China benefits politically from being regarded as a superpower, and economically from controlling much of the world's semiconductor production.

i have just a week ago told my wife i’m pretty certain the us has home addresses for anybody with important knowledge in tsmc and they’d be on helicopters out and demolition teams would be on the way to the fabs around the time invasion boats showed up on ground radar
