Taiwan probably can't sink them. Other nations will have given China the go ahead if this happens. The risk becomes minimal then.

It's not a guarantee. But I have trouble believing they'd take a risk that big. US has subs in that ocean. Planes that can reach it in under an hour. Probably EU stuff too. Not to mention Japan who is very nervous about China throwing weight. Can't over extend too far.
