Serious question - would you support military intervention in Taiwan at this point?

Taiwan going down would be the end of the global order and its replacement with something much much worse. thats all.

As someone who could get drafted, I don't see why I should care. If the choice is my life or this political order, why should millions of guys like me fight and die to save it? Would it even be ethical to? What would we get from our rulers to defend their honor? Anything at all?

its a fair question. there are a number of answers to each point. the practical answer is that the war would be over quickly either way; that being in the military or not would not substantially increase your likelihood of death, no matter how it ends up being fought;

that you are unlikely to be drafted in any case; that as contemptible as our rulers are, there are others still worse; that if you were not to fight for this order, it would be replaced by one even less appealing, and less your own

i guess my actual answer is that this is just what being a man requires. i dont know how to make it more legible than this. you're welcome to disagree with that and I dont think I could argue with you but I feel it strongly.

I dont think its incumbent upon us to risk ourselves in every fight, but there are some cases where our lives are not entirely our own. what any case is, I guess is a matter for your own judgment. good luck :)
