what is an ideal choice depends on context etc etc but one thing I am fairly confident in is that relatively powerful people ought to be held to a higher standard on the latter. for example "if you are the president and you fuck around with your intern you just are Toast"

to be clear i'm willing to endorse the billy graham rule in professional/political contexts, and even willing to endorse the literal text of it in informal social contexts, but not willing to endorse the *spirit* of it in informal social contexts

*even if* this massively diminishes the social utility, for the same reason that i would not endorse a "we should all self-flagellate and wear hair shirts" rule no matter how well someone argued for their social utility
