im vaccinated and i would really prefer everyone choose to be vaccinated but i dont spend time talking about this for a few reasons. this first is that i dont actually think it would have the desired effect if i just yelled at people about it. relatedly this feels tendentious.

I want to reemphasize that I am vaccinated and wish other people would be vaccinated. Supporting pushes for vaccines is something that it should be easy to get me behind.

So it is especially frustrating that expressions like the one in the screencap exist because I think they make it /less/ likely that people who are reluctant to get a vaccine will actually do so, if for no other reason than to spite people who clearly hate them and wish them ill

rulers in a democracy cannot afford to be openly contemptuous of the people they govern, and even aside from that this kind of attitude is indecent and inhumane and I really wish people quite generally would stop burning down the country to own their outgroup

Game this out. The job is gone. They don't want to pay welfare. They don't want to pay for 24 hour security for the quarantine site. These people are unlikely to ever become true allies. What did the CCP do to Falun Gong? Utils take many forms. Organ harvesting is recycling!

This is similar to how I feel about a lot of activists. "Some group will be negatively effected by this policy" doesn't mean it's bad, but it does throw red flags to me when proponents seem *gleeful* about those who their policy will harm instead of seeing it as a necessary evil
-
Harming people isn't Good even if those people are Bad. That doesn't mean it isn't sometimes necessary or unavoidable, but one shouldn't see it as something to be celebrated

I don't think a federal mandate is possible nor will be attempted and I think this matters for 3 reasons 1. Practically, the federal govt would be incapable of forcing anyone to get a vaccine, while most state govts 100% can
