wonder if alot of ppls politics make sense as consistent over time if they secretly dont actually care about object level views but just glom onto whichever faction vaguely seems more or less authoritarian at any given time

Many folks can be swayed fairly easily by appealing to their own biases and personal concerns. Much of the electorate is functionally, and I use that term loosely, ignorant of anything beyond their own backyard, sts.

When small I remember looking through the Economist’s my dad cadged off work. I remember my support for parties depended largely on which colour they were represented by. I sometimes am concerned if this has formed the entire basis of who I support or root for.
