The more time I spend on postrat twitter, the less I'm in the habit of directly contradicting people. My first impulse is to engage in verbal aikido and like, make a tangential humourous point or a subtle dig with 200 layers of plausible deniability. Not good.

Yeah, I think that probably captures a big chunk of it. It isn't on the label, but the attitudes are the same.

yes haha. And I appreciated it when you said so outright. The thing about subtext is that you can be aware of it, and be unsure of it. I think a lot of people dislike uncertainty, so making these things explicit can be a courtesy, if you can do it in a polite way.
