B/c she was afraid. Women didn’t work. ‘Good’ companies provided jobs for life and ‘consultants’ weren’t even in the vernacular. They would have been regarded as side jobs for people who couldn’t make it with the big boys (and they were all boys)

DuPont in that era was like Google. It was THE place to work and people acted like they were homeless if it didn’t work out. There was this weird vibe that you had to make it in the best corporate culture you could and there was something wrong with you if you didn’t.
