The really really funny part is I don't hear any talk about just feeding the landlords the lost rent over all this. Would have actually made some sense to say 'You file for eviction as normal BUT at that point the feds start paying the rent until we lift this'

The problem with the eviction moratorium is precisely that smaller players are less able to absorb the costs. Smaller landlords will be driven out of business, resulting in consolidation of rental properties under big financial firms.

And big financial firms always get paid: they are ruthless and indifferent in ways your local landlord can't imagine, and next time this happens, the Feds won't author an eviction moratorium that harms the bottom lines of their top donors.
