generally i find fiction superior to nonfiction as an epistemological tool because the usefulness of nonfiction is contingent on it being true

Yeah, they’re both kind of nonfiction, if the narrative is “a brain produced this”. I guess you could call that meta-narrative, but in a sense it’s the most salient part.

See: Don Juan by Carlos Castaneda. It’s not useful, but the fact that he had to lie well enough to convince a master’s thesis committee it was nonfiction is what makes it pretty much the only book that can still give me the willies. 11/10
