generally i find fiction superior to nonfiction as an epistemological tool because the usefulness of nonfiction is contingent on it being true

It's made to feel real only by the metrics of its creators and becomes increasingly unreal as you diverge from the creators ethos. fiction is to paint a real world using words that are real only to you. The dream is in that they might become real for you too.
