So far I have convinced 6 of the 7 nieces and nephews I have with graduate degrees to not go into academia. They all started their first jobs at least double my current salary. I never felt a minute of guilt about this. Thanks for the article. It will buttress my argument to #7

Hey, divorce rate is 51% and the majority of working parents require two incomes. Based on %ages at least 3 will be raising kids as a single parent. Even if child support is at least ok there is no way to raise 2-3vkids on an academic salary. My handy-man makes more per hour.
