"no one should ever tell anyone they are wrong about something" is of course an absurdly slanted framing and exactly the sort of hostile characterization one might expect from someone who spends all his waking hours telling people what they are supposed to think https://twitter.com/mattyglesias/status/1419341684823953419 …

There is fun to be had in getting people to believe utterly absurd ideas. A friend has a story about convincing his sister to go to NAPA to get horn fluid for her car because he had run it out while using it.

For the record I respect your intelligence and insight enough that I would very much not consider it rude to be informed that my opinions are Wrong.

well you know i might say "well heres one thing i worry about with that" or something extremely indirect but im very sensitive to how much people actually want to be convinced of something usually people who are open to changing their mind say "what do you think of X" or similar

I want to convince everyone the opinion they have is wrong. Preferably in an angry argumentative style. But if people would change their opinion because of me I would respect them less.

I once entered a party met a complete stranger and without knowing anything about each other started arguing about something with raised voice within 6 minutes. Absolutely fantastic

Also, over-persuasion can create orthodoxy when there's far more value in having a wide range of ideas than in having everyone on the same page. Most politics is in this category, I think.
